To kevfarley, From other reviews, your DVD player seems to play multi regions. I wonder if the issue is a firmware problem. It is possible that your player failed sometimes to switch region after playing region 3. What you may like to try is to turn off the DVD player AND remove the power cord from back of DVD or power outlet. Wait a minute before plug the power cord back etc. Hope the player would reset and play to region 1. Otherwise, may be search the player's menu for a reset or clear function.

This is is awful ! ...when I got this NYPL disc home and put this movie in the DVD player...and the screen says: "NOT FORMATTED FOR THIS REGION" !!?? ( Even though it states "Region #1", ie. 'North America', on the DVD jacket !!?)
I have watched a thousand other New York Public Library DVDs on my Panasonic Region 1 DVD Player,.. but this one makes it 32 TIMES that a film has have come up as "NOT FORMATTED..." etc. !
I waited a VERY long time to get this highly recommended film.
Having this happen is so VERY DISAPPOINTING !! I really wanted to see this movie. And I know that ALL the NYPL copies of it will have this same problem !!
WHY is the New York Public Library buying DVD's that are "NOT FORMATTED.." to be viewed in this region ?
Has this ever happened to anyone else out there ?

I like this movie with its presentation of how radical it was during the fifties to even discuss sexual behaviour in a neutral, non-judgmental manner. It is hard to imagine how controversial it was to actually study what people do in their sex lives. My biggest criticism of the movie was the casting of both Peter Skarsgaard and Chris O'Donnell, with identical haircuts and suits, doing much of the same work throughout the movie. I couldn't tell them apart! I'm still not sure which one of them had the affair with..... never mind, watch the movie.

An interesting interpretation, and exploration of misunderstood research. (The danger of researchers getting too personally involved in their work is also here.)

I’m a big fan of Liam Neeson, so I thought he did a great job in this movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of sexual humour in this movie but then again, that’s what this movie is all about.

Pssst! Let's talk-talk-talk about sex-sex-sex!_____ So, is he normal? Kinsey's star "sex survey" discovery could (get this!) go from being flaccid to erect to ejaculation in just 10 seconds flat! Zowie! I'd say that this guy must've been some sort of world record holder... Wouldn't you?_____ Kinsey, who was initially a devoted biologist, seemed to study sex amongst humans in the same way that he studied insects (his first passion). In other words, he viewed his work from a very detached and clinical point of view._____ And, so, with that in mind, it should be of no real surprise to the viewer that the sex scenes shown in this fairly intriguing bio-pic contain no eroticism, whatsoever. It's all just straight out of the textbook stuff._____ Throughout the mid-1940s Kinsey and his colleagues interviewed thousands of Americans all across the nation. Their extensive studies showed just how commonplace oral sex, homosexuality, adultery and masturbation (which, back then, was believed to cause serious mental illness) were amongst the general population._____ All-in-all - This film, which talk-talk-talks about sex like no other film around, was, for the most part, well-worth a view regardless of its flukes, its flaws and its somewhat uneven editing.

Excellent, not for the squeamish of sex education. Considering the era Kinsey worked on the subject it's sad that even in the mid '60s in most states or universities this was hidden info.

It is a 2004 biographical film written and directed by Bill Condon.
It describes the life of Alfred Kinsey (played by Liam Neeson)---a pioneer in the area of sexology.
His 1948 publication, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (the first of the Kinsey Reports) was one of the first recorded works that tried to scientifically address and investigate sexual behaviour in humans.
It is amazing to know that J. Edgar Hoover, the notorious director of FBI, created a file for Kinsey because he thought Kinsey was diverting from the traditional American values.
Also astounding is the fact that McCarthyist pressures led the Rockefeller Foundation to withdraw its financial support, lest it be labeled "Communist" for backing the subversion of traditional American values.
It is interesting to know that Kinsey and his wife agreed that both could sleep with other people as well as with each other.
Kinsey himself slept with other men, including his student Clyde Martin.

drama - exploritory investigation, primal curiousity or lust, education and many many questions either you were too afraid to ask or figured you pick up along the way. A good viewing, entertaining.
