Enjoy the honest dialogue in this well-written script. Enjoy the usual fine acting (performed by every cast member) that you expect from a first-rate BBC series. I particularly enjoyed the performances of Sarah Lancashire (Caroline) and Derek Jacobi (Alan), who proves his dramatic mastery once again. This very entertaining adult fairy tale happily omits the anguish of poverty so you can vicariously escape into the lives of these fictional characters who deal with many emotional difficulties but who never worry about where their next meal is coming from. This series really shines when the characters keep going in spite of difficult emotional situations. The unimaginable highs and lows presented are given the time to be dealt with patiently. As one character says, "It takes time to adjust." Human foibles are presented honestly, and at times a character's reaction is hard to watch because you want that character to behave better. We are human and limited by our humanity but also inspired by our humanity. This series ended at the right time on the right note at series 3 - no need for a series 4.

This is a wonderful show. I have seen series 1 and 2. Both series were a joy to watch.

I agree with another's comment that, not surprisingly, Season Two's content didn't have the momentum or spark of the debut, but I was still very engaged and I will definitely be checking out Season Three (especially with Gillian's personal cliffhanger...)

Overall a very good series but Season Two was a little slow/repetitive at times. Still good acting by the main characters.

Sweet, sentimental, leisurely adventures of a December/December love affair and marriage. Without the presence of an excellent and sensitive cast this movie would have all the energy of a flat tire, but these actors breathe life into an otherwise uninspired script.
